Overview
We are looking for a lung cancer clinical nurse specialist to work on a 12 month secondment for 37.5 hours per week. A minimum of 2 years cancer or respiratory nursing experience is required.
ResponsibilitiesThe post holder reports to the lead lung cancer clinical nurse specialist and works in close collaboration with respiratory physicians, thoracic surgeons, oncologists, radiologists, pathologists, and allied health care professionals. The role involves close teamwork within the lung cancer clinical nursing team and liaison with wider hospital and community services to ensure seamless, holistic care for patients and their families.
Managing a patient caseload, acting as a key worker and advocating for lung cancer patients from the point of accessing the lung cancer pathway, through to diagnosis, treatment, follow up and survivorship.
Communicating to patients in a way that empowers them to make informed choices about their health and treatment.
Working alongside a team of lung cancer clinical nurse specialists (bands 6-8), lung cancer operations coordinators and Cancer Support Workers. The service currently operates Monday to Friday, no nights/weekends or bank holidays.
Demonstrating a willingness to work flexibly to meet service needs, including covering agreed clinic times and participating in service development activity.
QualificationsRegistered Adult Nurse with experience in lung cancer care and a background in either respiratory medicine, oncology or surgery.
Strong evidence of advanced communication, assessment and coordination skills to support patients, families and the multidisciplinary team.
Ability to work autonomously while contributing effectively to the lung cancer clinical nurse specialist team.
Aware and understanding of wider Trust pressures, including demand management, performance targets and service improvement priorities.
