Job Overview
University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust invites applications for the position of Band 7 Clinical Nurse Specialist in the Supportive and Palliative Care Team.
This senior role focuses on delivering expert, person‑centred care for patients with complex supportive and palliative needs, enhancing quality of life and supporting families throughout their care journey.
Responsibilities- Provide specialist clinical expertise, leadership, education and advocacy for patients with complex supportive and palliative care needs across inpatient settings.
- Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to deliver seamless care, influence best practice and support service development.
- Facilitate change to promote practice development and service improvement/modernisation activities, in accordance with local and national service policy or guidance.
- Identify gaps in evidence and/or practice knowledge that require resolution through research, and initiate or assist in research activities as appropriate.
- Line manage direct reports, as appropriate, including recruitment, retention, attendance and performance management.
- Practice at an advanced level to provide in‑depth knowledge and deliver personalised care.
- Support the team as a 7‑day a week service provider.
- Specialist clinical skills and experience at Band 6 level within specialist palliative care.
- Experience of supporting and managing learners in practice.
- Negotiation and problem‑solving skills.
- Ability to assimilate clinical information quickly to provide specialist interventions.
- Willingness to work across a 7‑day a week service.
- Registered nurse on the relevant part of the NMC register.
- Level 7 Post Grad Cert (min 60 credits), Master’s Degree within relevant speciality or equivalent knowledge assessed through evidence of relevant speciality training, experience or portfolio.
- Specialist training / qualification in area of practice.
- Evidence of experience and completion of all band 6 competencies within relevant speciality.
- Specialist clinical skills and experience within specialist area.
- Evidence of change management, leadership and innovation.
- Clinical experience at Band 6 or equivalent within relevant speciality.
- Evidence of supporting colleagues to promote learning in practice, providing an excellent learning environment for all.
- Evidence of supporting / managing and supervising a range of learners in practice.
- Counselling / advanced communication skills qualification / training.
- Act in the role of Practice Assessor or supporting the progression of learners / supporting challenges as needed.
- Experience of nurse‑led care / clinics in own practice.
- Team leadership role.
- Registered as an independent prescriber.
- Leadership qualification / training.
