Main duties of the job

The Paediatric Pre Assessment team are looking for 2 nurses to join them, 1 vacancy is for 22.5 hours a week and the other is for 7.5 hours a week.

This role is responsible for carrying out Paediatric pre-operative assessments of Child and Young People within the Child health care group, to ensure patient and their families are physically and emotionally prepared for their surgery.

This role involves undertaking competency-based patient assessment and examination in order to formulate a management plan for specific groups of patients admitted to UHS for surgical pre-operative assessment.

Essential criteria
  • Health and physical abilities sufficient for the post (if necessary with reasonable adjustments with respect to the Equality Act/Disability Discrimination Act).
Qualifications / Training Required Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse on relevant part of the NMC register
  • Registered Nurse on paediatric register
  • Evidence of on-going personal development
  • Completion of Healthcare Degree (or equivalent – minimum 120 credits at L6)
  • Higher Education Institute approved course in supporting learners in practice or the ability to provide evidence of
  • Supporting a range of learners in practice
  • Supporting colleagues to promote effective learning in practice
Desirable criteria
  • Advanced Health Assessment and Diagnosis course
  • History taking and Physical Assessment experience / course and competencies
  • Paediatric Pre-Assessment Practitioner course
  • Venesection training course
  • Independent Non-Medical Prescribing Qualification
  • Advanced Communication course
  • Management Experience / Course
Previous or relevant experience necessary Essential criteria
  • Significant post registration experience within a surgical setting.
  • Evidence of clinical leadership and managerial ability
Desirable criteria
  • Broad range of post registration experience including within a preoperative assessment setting.
