Main duties of the job

Join a dedicated multidisciplinary team and make a lasting difference to the lives of patients with head and neck and thyroid cancer.

As a Band 7 Head and Neck and Thyroid Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS), you will provide expert clinical care, guidance, and support throughout the patient pathway, ensuring patients and their families receive compassionate, personalised care at every stage of their journey.

Working closely with consultants, surgeons, oncologists, allied health professionals, and nursing colleagues, you will act as a key worker, coordinating care and delivering specialist advice to improve patient experience and outcomes.

Through advanced clinical practice, leadership, education, and service development, you will contribute to the Trust's strategic objectives of delivering safe, effective, and high-quality care.

The role also provides professional leadership, supervision, and development support to Band 6 Clinical Nurse Specialists and other members of the wider team, fostering a culture of learning, excellence, and continuous improvement.

The post holder reports to the Lead Head, Neck and Thyroid Specialist Nurse and plays a pivotal role within the Head and Neck and Thyroid multidisciplinary team, driving excellence and innovation across the service.

Job Description And Main Responsibilities

We are looking for an experienced and motivated Registered Nurse who is passionate about delivering outstanding patient care and improving outcomes for patients with head and neck and thyroid conditions. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate:

  • Significant post-registration experience within Head and Neck Cancer, Thyroid, Oncology, Surgical or related specialist services, with evidence of autonomous clinical decision-making and advanced assessment skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to provide complex information and emotional support to patients and families, while working effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Leadership experience, including the ability to supervise, support and develop junior colleagues, and contribute to service improvement, education and quality initiatives.
  • A commitment to delivering high-quality, evidence-based, patient-centred care, with the ability to manage a complex caseload and coordinate services across the patient pathway.
