An exciting postdoctoral research role within the Faculty of Medicine’s Genomic Informatics Group invites applications for a fixed‑term appointment that spans three years. Situated at the heart of translational genomics research, this position offers the opportunity to contribute to cutting‑edge work that connects large‑scale genomic sequencing with clinical insights. You will be part of a multidisciplinary team based on the University of Southampton Hospital site
, working alongside genomic informaticians, clinicians, data scientists, and infrastructure specialists to drive research that has real‑world impact on patient care.
In this role, you will drive innovative research that enhances the integration of high‑throughput genomic datasets with structured clinical data, and help develop robust bioinformatics solutions for translational diagnostics. The work includes producing high‑quality research outputs, contributing to education and training, and providing leadership within the group. There is scope to engage with national initiatives and data resources that support genomic medicine and secure clinical data environments.
EligibilityCriteria
Applicants should hold a PhD in bioinformatics, genomics, computational biology, data science, or a closely related discipline
, with relevant postdoctoral or professional experience. A strong foundation in genomic medicine research and the ability to operate at the intersection of computational and clinical data science are key requirements.
The successful candidate will demonstrate extensive experience working with high‑throughput sequencing data analysis
, development and maintenance of bioinformatics workflows
, and strong programming skills in languages such as R, Python, Bash, or similar
. Experience integrating genomic data with structured clinical information, familiarity with clinical ontologies, and a solid understanding of data governance practices for sensitive health data will support success in this role.
The salary for this position is in the range of £36,636 to £46,049 per annum
, dependent on level of appointment (Research Fellow or Senior Research Fellow) and experience.
