Main duties of the jobThe Research and Development Department at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust is looking for a research facilitator who will oversee the smooth ongoing management of research studies across the trust. A key responsibility of the role is to ensure the timely set-up and prioritisation of studies across the division specialties, in line with national and local metrics and key performance indicators.
The role is varied as it involves working with several teams and both commercial and non‑commercial work streams. You will work with a variety of colleagues to provide an efficient and customer‑focused service.
This role is advertised as part‑time with a maximum of 24 hours and a minimum of 22.5 hours. You will be expected to work in an agile fashion with some shifts at home and others on site.
Job responsibilitiesAs a Research Facilitator you will work closely with the divisional research teams, investigators and senior managers to deliver the UHS R&D strategy.
- Act as a specialist for researchers setting up studies in the trust
- Maintain comprehensive knowledge of resources to support study development
- Support with the regular collection of data and reporting on performance metrics
- Deputise for the Divisional Research Manager
- Clinical / scientific degree or equivalent demonstrable experience relevant to the role
- Significant experience of using systems and processes which support the delivery of high‑quality clinical care in a clinical research environment
- Significant experience of cost attribution for clinical research in a healthcare setting and the research grants process
- Significant experience of the set‑up or delivery of clinical research in a healthcare setting
- Experience of delivery training
- Evidence of current and on‑going GCP training
- Knowledge of research governance and quality assurance systems to ensure safe systems for patients
- An understanding of current R&D issues in the NHS
- Evidence of continuing professional development relevant to the role
- Experience of working in a large teaching hospital or University
- Experience of the use of IRAS or NRES databases for R&D applications or delivery of commercial clinical research
- Knowledge of EDGE as a RM&G tool
