Offer Description

NIHR ARC Wessex Addiction Flagship

Based in Psychiatry

Alcohol- and gambling-related harms can have substantial effects on people’s mental and physical health, relationships, finances and wider lives.

The NIHR ARC Wessex Addiction Flagship is developing a connected programme of applied research, implementation and partnership activity focused on improving the identification of, and response to, alcohol- and gambling-related harms. The programme brings together academic, NHS, local authority, voluntary and community sector, policy and lived-experience partners, with an emphasis on developing approaches that are relevant to real-world services and can be adapted and implemented across different communities and health and care systems.

The purpose of this post is to support the development and delivery of research within the Addiction Flagship. The successful candidate will work closely with the Flagship leadership team and wider collaborators to help develop the initial programme of research and contribute to the delivery of emerging project(s).

We are seeking a researcher with experience of conducting research in alcohol- and/or gambling-related harms including prior involvement in published peer-reviewed review paper(s) and Priority Setting Partnership(s).

The work forms part of NIHR ARC Wessex, which undertakes applied health and care research to improve outcomes for patients and the public, improve the quality and delivery of health and care services, address inequalities and support sustainable health and care systems.

Excellent organisational, interpersonal and communication skills are essential for the role, together with the ability to manage competing priorities, work independently when required and contribute effectively within a collaborative research environment. The role may require travel to partner organisations and research locations across the region.

The post ispart time and fixed term for one year in the first instance. Flexible working and part-time or job-share arrangements may be considered.

Applications will be considered from candidates who have already completed a relevant PhD or equivalent experience.
