Personal Advisor – Leaving Care Team £22.62 per hour (Umbrella) (£17.85 PAYE an hour) Southampton Initial 3-month contract 37 hours per week Hybrid working (minimum 2 days per week in office) Travel required across region to support young people

About the Role

Southampton City Council is seeking an experienced Personal Advisor to join its established Leaving Care service on a short‐term contract. This is a vital frontline role supporting care leavers aged 18–25, helping them successfully transition into independent adulthood. You will play a key role in improving life chances by providing practical, emotional, and aspirational support tailored to individual needs. You will hold a caseload of young people and work closely with them, their networks, and partner agencies to ensure consistent and effective support.

Key Responsibilities
  • Case-hold a cohort of care leavers aged 18–25
  • Develop, review and implement Pathway Plans
  • Support young people with housing, education, employment and training (ETE)
  • Promote independence through life skills development
  • Work collaboratively with multi‑agency professionals and support networks
  • Participate in a duty rota to respond to urgent or emergency needs
  • Provide consistent, relationship‑based support to vulnerable young adults
  • Ensure accurate recording and compliance with statutory requirements
About You
  • Experience working with care leavers, looked after children or young people
  • Strong background in case management or key working roles
  • Knowledge of leaving care legislation and Pathway Planning
  • Ability to build trusting, supportive relationships with young people
  • Experience working within a multi‑agency environment
  • Strong communication, organisation and time management skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage a varied caseload
  • A commitment to supporting young people into independence
