Job Overview
Teacher Assistant Pre‑School at Brown Christian Academy (Brown Missionary Baptist Church).

- Assist assigned teachers in maintaining a well‑organized and smoothly functioning classroom for both teachers and students.
- Help students with exercises and class activities, concentrating on small groups or individuals as needed.
- Compile, prepare and organize materials and classroom space for instruction and activities.
- Assist in cleaning and storing materials after completion of activities.
- Reinforce all knowledge and skills taught by the classroom teacher.
- Maintain student records, record daily attendance, grade assignments, administer standardized tests, record and analyze test scores/grades, substitute as needed, set up special projects, escort children to other school areas, monitor student behaviour, run errands.
- Supervise and assist students when unloading/loading buses, in halls, on field trips, during testing, during lunch, during computer lab, and on school grounds.
- Assist in establishing and implementing behavioural objectives; model appropriate social and play skills; observe student behaviour and notify teachers or school nurse of behavioural changes; redirect behaviour if possible; work with individual students to help them adjust behaviourally and academically into mainstream classroom and social settings.
- Attend staff meetings as required; participate in in‑service training programmes; keep abreast of developments in areas of assignment.
- Perform routine clerical tasks as required, including but not limited to preparing reports and records, copying and filing documents, entering and retrieving computer data, preparing notices and newsletters, receiving and responding to e‑mails.
- Perform other related duties as assigned or directed.
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with an Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood.
- Or two (2) years of college (minimum of 48 semester hours) from an accredited institution.
- Or three (3) years of experience working with children in a professional educational setting.
- Must possess or be able to obtain certification in CPR and First Aid.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, talk, hear, walk, sit on the floor depending on the age of the children, push or lift up to 50 lbs.
0‑12 ft. and on occasion up to 20 ft., bend or twist at the neck more than the average person, lift arms to write on chalk or marking board, stoop, kneel, crouch and reach 0‑24 in. and up to 36 in. above the head. The employee is directly responsible for the safety, well‑being and work output of other people, frequently lifting children. Specific vision and hearing abilities required include close vision to read handwritten or typed material and hearing to monitor activity and respond to communication with students and adults.

Monday – Friday, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm.
