Summary:
Performs routine repairs and maintenance on heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning (HVAC) systems including air distribution machinery, pneumatic and digital controls, hot and chilled water distribution, and variable volume systems. Oversight of steam heat system and repairs and troubleshooting for related systems as required.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform preventive maintenance, adjustments, and basic repairs on both pneumatically controlled and digitally controlled HVAC systems
- Perform seasonal overhauls and transitions of systems to and from heating/cooling
- Participate in major component replacement and evaluation of complex system problems under the leadership of higher-level technicians
- Perform building system repairs in coordination with operators of the centralized Energy Management and Control System
- Perform repairs on air distribution machinery pneumatic and digital controls, and variable volume systems
- Troubleshoot and repair of building hot water and chilled water systems
- Ensure proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices
- Provide on-call support after hours as part of the on-call team
- Assist with the snow removal on campus as needed each winter
- Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned
- High school diploma or GED; at least 5 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified
- Possession of a current Massachusetts HVAC-related license
- Experience with Mitsubishi City Multi & Commercial VRF Systems required
- Experience with steam & forced hot water heating systems required
- Experience with large DX split systems, cooling towers, & chillers required
- Ability to repair building systems that are controlled by a central Building Management System (BMS)
- Knowledge of maintenance and repair procedures for digitally controlled HVAC systems featuring programmable logic controls
- Knowledge of other HVAC systems maintenance and repair
- Ability to use hand and power tools applicable to trade
- Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures
- Possession of a valid Massachusetts driver's license is a requirement for the job
- Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check
- Must maintain certification status
- Work involves some exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, and/or loud noises
- Work environment involves exposure to potentially dangerous materials and situations that require following extensive safety precautions and may include the use of protective equipment
- Requires heavy physical work; heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling objects up to 50 pounds
