We’re looking for a team player who enjoys working with children. The assistant will work at the Sarah and Richard Hardy Center for Child Development in Southbridge.

Description

Under the supervision of the Lead Teacher, the assistant Preschool Teacher will assist in setting up and implementing daily curriculum that promotes social, cultural, educational, physical, and emotional growth. Additional responsibilities include performing housekeeping chores as necessary and providing a quality experience that focuses on a nurturing environment.

Essential Functions
  • Has knowledge of and maintains NAEYC and DEEC standards.
  • Assists classroom teacher in implementing daily lesson/activity plans to support a developmentally appropriate curriculum.
  • Greets and interacts with parents and children in a professional and friendly manner.
  • Is cognizant of children’s safety at all times.
  • Makes and records observations of the children.
  • Maintains classroom equipment.
  • Changes and feeds children.
  • Supervises outdoor play, handwashing, and toileting.
  • Attends and participates in family nights, staff meetings, staff trainings, and YMCA special events.
  • Performs additional duties as required by a supervisor to support the overall mission of the YMCA and the Child Care Department.
Qualifications
  • Meets educational and experience qualifications established by DEEC, NAEYC, and QRIS.
  • At least 18 years of age.
  • Must obtain and keep current certification in CPR, First Aid, and Child Abuse Prevention.
  • Previous experience working with children in a developmental setting preferred.
  • Experience working with children with trauma preferred.
  • Is flexible with schedule changes.
Schedule

Shifts are Monday‑Friday between 7:00 am and 5:30 pm. Please indicate your availability.

Job Type

Part‑time

Pay

$17.00 per hour. Plus access to YMCA facilities for employees, Employee Assistance Program, sick leave, and a 403(b) retirement savings plan.
