The therapist is expected to be able to perform all modes of respiratory care as defined in the department policy and procedure manual. These tasks will include, but are not limited to, delivery of small‑volume nebulizers, drawing of arterial blood gases, maintaining artificial airways and mechanical ventilation. The therapist must be competent to deliver these therapies to all age groups ranging from perinatal to geriatric.
MajorResponsibilities
- Demonstrates excellent customer service skills.
- Appropriately documents all care activity performed and charges in the hospital EMR system.
- Participates in hospital and departmental performance improvement activities.
- Demonstrates competency in utilization and maintenance of arterial blood gas machines.
- Demonstrates competency in proper set up and utilization of all mechanical ventilators.
- Demonstrates competency in proper set up and utilization of the V60 NIPPV.
- Demonstrates competency in proper set up and utilization of all High Flow Oxygen Therapy systems.
- Demonstrates competency in the disinfection, transport and set up of all non‑disposable equipment.
- Adheres to the Hospitals' Standards of Behavior.
- Completes all hospital and department annual competencies.
- Complies with established departmental policies, procedures and objectives.
- Attends variety of meetings, conferences, seminars as required or directed.
- Demonstrates use of Quality Improvement in daily operations.
- Complies with all health and safety regulations and requirements.
- Respects diverse views and approaches, demonstrates Standards of Respect, and contributes to creating and maintaining an environment of professionalism, tolerance, civility and acceptance toward all employees, patients and visitors.
- Maintains regular, reliable, and predictable attendance.
- Performs other similar and related duties as required or directed.
All responsibilities are essential job functions.
Position Qualifications License/Certification/Education- Must be a graduate of an AMA approved school of respiratory care.
- Licensed in the state of Massachusetts in respiratory care; license may be in full or limited capacity.
- Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification for healthcare providers (BLSHP).
- Maintenance of CEUs in accordance with the regulation of licensure in the state of Massachusetts.
