Medical Secretary General Practice (Full Time)
Queensway Surgery is looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Medical Secretary to join our busy and supportive GP practice team.
The successful candidate will have previous experience working within a GP practice or healthcare environment and will be responsible for providing a high-quality medical secretarial service to support our clinicians, patients, and wider practice team.
This is a varied and important role requiring excellent organisational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage competing priorities in a busy primary care setting.
You will work closely with GPs, clinicians, administrative teams, and external healthcare providers to ensure referrals, correspondence, and patient information are processed accurately and efficiently.
Main duties of the job- Processing and managing NHS referrals, including urgent and routine referrals
- Preparing and sending referral documentation and supporting information
- Monitoring referral pathways and chasing outstanding information where required
- Liaising with hospitals, consultants, community services, and other healthcare professionals
- Supporting clinicians with administrative tasks
- Maintaining accurate patient records using Systm One
- Ensuring all work is completed in line with confidentiality, GDPR, and information governance requirements
- Prioritising workload effectively within a busy GP practice environment
- Supporting continuous improvement of administrative processes

Job responsibilitiesTo provide a comprehensive medical secretarial and administrative service to the clinical team, ensuring referrals, correspondence, and patient information are processed accurately, efficiently, and within required timescales.
The post holder will work collaboratively with GPs, clinicians, administrative staff, hospitals, and community services to support the delivery of safe, effective, and patient-centred care.
Person Specification Experience- Previous experience working as a Medical Secretary within a General Practice.
- Experience processing NHS referrals.
- Experience managing clinical correspondence.
- Experience working within a busy administrative environment.
- Experience communicating with hospitals and external healthcare providers.
