There is one post for a consultant Paediatrician with a special interest in Cardiology to join the existing team.
You should be able to provide acute Paediatric emergency and ambulatory care and serve as Consultant of the week covering Paediatrics, Neonates and the Paediatrics Assessment Unit, as well as take on‑call in both acute Paediatrics and neonatology.
Outpatient activities provide an opportunity to further develop the special interest; it is expected that the new Consultant will, individually and within teams, provide services in the above specialities.
Job detailsApplications are invited for one full‑time equivalent Consultant Paediatrician to join the department at Southend University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, with responsibilities across the Trust.
There is an expectation that the post holder will have an interest or experience in Cardiology. If the successful candidate does not have the relevant experience, they will be supported to develop this role, which will be included in their job plan.
The post complements a team of 14 consultants to provide attending and on‑call services for General Paediatrics and the Level 1 Neonatal Unit. On‑call commitments will be 1 in 14.
Detailed job description and main responsibilitiesWeekly timetable:
The changing nature of the contracting process makes it essential that all consultants have a flexible approach to working arrangements, which may include innovative working patterns, including 7‑day working in the future. The job plan will be reviewed at regular intervals after the initial appointment.
- Direct Clinical Care – 8.5 PAs on average per week (includes clinical activity, related administrative activity, predictable and unpredictable work)
- Supporting Professional Activities – 1.5 PAs on average per week (includes CPD, audit, teaching and research)
- Additional payment for on‑call will be calculated once the job plan is finalised.
