GSL Education are seeking an enthusiastic, confident, and proactive Cover Supervisor to join a supportive and forward-thinking secondary school in Southend. This is an excellent opportunity for graduates, aspiring teachers, teaching assistants, or experienced education professionals looking to gain valuable classroom experience and develop their career within education and training.

As a Cover Supervisor, you will be responsible for supervising classes during the short-term absence of teachers, ensuring students remain engaged, focused, and on task with their learning. You will play a key role in maintaining a positive, structured, and inclusive learning environment while supporting students across a range of subjects and year groups.

This role is ideal for candidates considering a future career in teaching, teacher training, education, youth work, or pastoral support.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Supervise whole-class learning during teacher absences
  • Deliver pre-planned lessons across a variety of secondary subjects
  • Maintain strong classroom behaviour management and positive learning environments
  • Support students with classwork, engagement, and lesson participation
  • Encourage student progress, confidence, and independent learning
  • Provide feedback to teaching staff regarding student behaviour and attainment
  • Support students across Key Stages 3 and 4
  • Promote positive behaviour, safeguarding, and high expectations throughout the school day
  • Assist with exam invigilation, school trips, enrichment activities, and wider school events where required
Requirements:
  • Strong communication, organisation, and interpersonal skills
  • Confident managing classroom behaviour and leading groups of young people
  • Ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents
  • Flexible, adaptable, and resilient within a fast-paced secondary school environment
  • A passion for education, student wellbeing, and supporting young people’s development
  • Previous experience working with young people, schools, sports coaching, tutoring, mentoring, or youth work is desirable but not essential
