The School of Creative and Performing Arts is seeking an enthusiastic and talented media professional or experienced lecturer to join our thriving and creative media team at our Southend campus.

Our department delivers an exciting range of media programmes across TV, film, print and digital media, including University of the Arts London (UAL) qualifications and the T Level in Media, Broadcast and Production. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is passionate about their industry and keen to inspire the next generation of creative talent.

Whether you are an experienced educator or currently working within the media industry and considering a move into teaching, we would love to hear from you. Full training and support are available for candidates who have the right industry expertise but do not yet hold a teaching qualification.

As a Lecturer in Media, you will plan and deliver engaging, industry‑relevant lessons across our Level 1, 2 and 3 programmes. You will also take on Course Leader responsibilities for a Level 1 cohort, supporting learners with diverse needs and helping them to develop the skills, confidence and resilience required to succeed in education and beyond.

We are looking for someone who can create an inclusive and motivating learning environment, adapting teaching approaches to ensure every learner can achieve their potential. You will assess student work, provide constructive formative and summative feedback, and work collaboratively with colleagues to support student progress and achievement.

The successful candidate will be a strong communicator with a genuine passion for media education. You will possess excellent practical media production skills and be confident using Adobe Creative Cloud, particularly Photoshop and Premiere Pro. A strong understanding of media theory and its application within practical projects would be advantageous, as would current industry knowledge and experience that can help prepare students for progression into higher education and employment within the creative industries.

You will join a friendly, supportive and ambitious team committed to delivering outstanding learning experiences and helping students achieve their career aspirations.

Why Join Us?

This is an exciting opportunity to work in a well‑equipped creative environment where students learn using industry‑standard facilities, including:

  • A professional Blackmagic TV studio
  • Dedicated green screen studio for VFX production
  • Purpose‑built podcast suite
  • Foley suite for sound design and audio production

In addition to working with talented students and colleagues, you’ll benefit from:

  • 40 days annual leave entitlement, plus bank holidays
  • A supportive and collaborative team culture
  • Excellent opportunities for professional development and career progression
  • Fully funded teacher training for industry professionals looking to move into education
  • The opportunity to shape and influence the next generation of media professionals
What We’re Looking For
  • A passion for media and creative education
  • Strong practical skills in media production
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud, particularly Photoshop and Premiere Pro
  • The ability to engage, motivate and inspire learners from a wide range of backgrounds
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills
  • Current industry experience and knowledge of contemporary media practices (desirable)
Qualifications

Candidates who do not currently hold a teaching qualification will need a minimum Level 3 qualification in a relevant subject specialism, together with English and Maths at Level 2.

For the successful candidate, the College will fully fund an in‑house Cert Ed (Level
5) or PGCE (Level
6), providing an excellent opportunity to develop a rewarding career in further education.

This role offers the chance to share your expertise, develop future media professionals and work in an inspiring creative environment with access to industry‑standard facilities.

If you are passionate about media, committed to student success and excited by the opportunity to shape the future of the creative industries, we would love to hear from you.
