Position: Lecturer Art & Design (Fashion Business & Retail) 18.5 hours per week
Location: Southend-on-Sea

Job Summary

South Essex Colleges Group is seeking a talented and passionate Art and Design Lecturer to join our thriving Creative and Performing Arts Department at our Southend Campus. You will teach a diverse range of creative courses, including Fine Art, Illustration, 3D Design, Graphics, Photography, and Fashion, delivering lessons, workshops, and assessments that support learners at different levels and inspire them to develop practical and theoretical skills.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and deliver lessons, workshops, and assessments across Art and Design courses, ensuring an engaging and comprehensive learning experience.
  • Create a stimulating and supportive learning environment that encourages creativity, critical thinking, and independent learning.
  • Lead the UAL Level 3 Diploma Fashion Business and Retail Year 1 course: plan, develop, assess learners’ work, manage course documentation, ensure alignment with the curriculum, track attendance and progress, set clear targets, and provide timely feedback.
  • Manage the learner journey from induction to progression, supporting learners in reaching their potential and successfully completing their course.
  • Maintain high levels of learner engagement, deliver course leadership, and collaborate effectively with colleagues and employers to enhance the curriculum.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Relevant degree in Art, Design or a related field (or equivalent qualification).
  • Significant teaching experience in a further education environment, ideally within Art and Design specialising in Fashion or Fashion Business and Retail.
  • Strong knowledge and passion for various Art and Design disciplines, with experience teaching across levels 1 to 4.
  • Industry experience in fashion retail, buying or design is advantageous.
  • Excellent organisational and administrative skills; ability to manage course documentation, track learner progress, and meet deadlines.
  • Commitment to high quality teaching and learning, with the ability to inspire and motivate learners.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; build positive relationships with learners and colleagues and collaborate with employers.
  • Experience with digital platforms and learning management systems, and knowledge of UAL qualifications and industry-standard software such as Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Teaching qualification (e.g., PGCE, Cert Ed) or a commitment to working toward one. Candidates without a teaching qualification must hold a minimum Level 3 qualification in the subject specialism plus Maths and English at Level 2 before undertaking a Cert Ed Level 5 or PGCE Level 6.
Course Leadership & Team Management

Experience in course leadership and managing teams of staff within a curriculum area is preferred, as is the capability to oversee curriculum delivery and staff support.

Working Hours and Schedule

18.5 hours per week, working across Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
