Location: Southend
Salary: 35,000 - 40,000 (DOE) + Profit-Related Bonus
Hours: 37.5 per week (8:30am - 5:00pm)

An established and design-led British manufacturer is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join its Research & Development team. This is a hands-on role within a collaborative, non-hierarchical engineering culture focused on quality, innovation, and long-term product development.
The RoleYou will contribute to the full mechanical design lifecycle - from concept development and prototyping through to production and ongoing product support. Working across multiple concurrent projects, you'll design precision components and assemblies while ensuring manufacturability, cost efficiency, and adherence to core design principles.
Key ResponsibilitiesMechanical concept design for new and existing products
3D modelling, assemblies, and detailed engineering drawings with GD&T in Solid Works
Designing for machining, injection moulding, extrusions, sheet metal, stamping and 3D printing
Hands-on prototyping, testing, and design refinement
Ongoing design revisions, cost engineering and DFM improvements
Design of machinery, jigs and fixtures
Transition of legacy drawings into CAD and PDM systems
Supplier liaison and manufacturability reviews
Supporting product implementation into production
Strong natural understanding of mechanical design principles
Proficient in Solid Works (or similar 3D CAD software)
Experience designing for a range of manufacturing processes
Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving ability
Strong communication and sketching skills
Comfortable working on multiple projects simultaneously
Self-motivated and able to work on own initiative
20 days annual leave, increasing by 1 day per year of service
