We have an exciting opportunity for someone with the right experience to join the MSEFT Patient safety Team. We are a small team with a real focus on the patient and staff experience.

The Patient Safety facilitator will be key in supporting and developing the embedding of the Patient Safety Incident Response Framework (PSIRF) across the Trust, in addition to supporting processes for patient safety including the response to and management of incidents, investigations, never events, Duty of Candour and compliance with national patient safety alerts.

The role is required to work leading patient safety across all sites within the Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust footprint.

Main duties of the job

The Patient Safety Facilitator will work as a member of the Patient Safety Team to support an organisational safety culture that focusses on high quality care standards.

They will support managers and staff to ensure all incidents within the Trust are reviewed and that there is an appropriate response. They will:

  • Promote a just culture that focusses on continuous improvement in relation to incident reporting and patient safety issues
  • Support the management of the serious incident process
  • Provide expert guidance and advice in incident and serious incident management and investigation in line with Trust, regional and national policy
  • Provide high quality performance and aggregated incident reports
  • Provide assurance to all necessary internal and external bodies or indicate to the organisation that pro-active action needs to be taken to rectify gaps.

Person Specification Qualifications
  • Registered Nurse or Allied Health Professional or educated to A level or diploma level with equivalent significant experience in a Patient Safety role
  • Patient Safety Training - PSIRF
Experience
  • Substantial experience of the NHS, patient safety and clinical governance agenda
  • Proficient in the use a wide variety of IT and software packages
  • Experience of supporting and teaching to multidisciplinary teams in relation to patient safety
  • Significant experience in using risk management systems
  • Significant experience in the oversight and management of incidents
  • Experience in leading engagement with system partners i.e. ICB / NHSE
  • Experience with in a Corporate Patient Safety role
Communication
  • Excellent standard of written English - demonstrated throughout application form
  • High level of interpersonal skills including the ability to lead, influence and motivate - demonstrated in previous experience and supporting information
  • Experience in leading communication with system partners i.e. ICB, providers
