Overview

Female Housing Support Worker | Southend | 37 hours per week | £24,335

Main Purpose of the Role

Are you a motivated and passionate individual looking to make a real difference in your local community? Are you also available at the weekends on a rota basis to put your skills to good use? If so, we would love you to join our clients housing management team as a Housing Support Worker.

  • Providing practical advice, information and support on tenancy sustainment, education, employment, life skills and the development of personal independence
  • Supporting service users to improve their mental health and manage physical health needs or substance misuse where required
  • Ensuring housing provided to service users is exemplary, safe and well‑maintained

Key Responsibilities

Resident Support

  • Ensure residents receive a welcoming, supportive and positive experience as they settle into a home environment
  • Support the team in managing a caseload, including assessments, support plans and reviews
  • Build warm, positive and professional relationships with service users
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to deliver tailored support packages
  • Enable residents to sustain their accommodation, prevent evictions and support those ready to move on
  • Encourage and support residents with substance misuse issues to engage with specialist treatment services
  • Assist residents in developing essential life skills such as budgeting, cooking, laundry and personal hygiene
  • Provide evening and weekend cover across sites in line with the rota
  • Ensure anti‑oppressive practice is embedded in all interactions with residents and service users

Health, Safety and Housing

  • Carry out all building health and safety checks in line with organisational policies
  • Ensure properties and surrounding areas are safe, secure and conducive to effective engagement and community cohesion
  • Assist residents with Housing Benefit applications to ensure timely recovery of rent and service charges
  • Maintain regular contact with residents and ensure they understand tenancy rights and responsibilities

Delivery and Case Management

  • Maintain accurate and up‑to‑date case files for all residents
  • Advise residents on welfare, housing, benefits and legal rights, supporting them to access entitlements
  • Support service users in accessing appropriate medical, dental and mental health care
  • Assist colleagues in delivering meaningful activity groups

Monitoring and Evaluation

  • Ensure all information on the Company In‑Form database is accurate and fully updated for monitoring and reporting
  • Conduct exit interviews with participants

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Build and maintain strong professional relationships with partner agencies

Press, PR and Communications

  • Support Fundraising & Communications teams in promoting services to local press and media when required

GDPR, Data Protection and Confidentiality

  • Ensure all data is handled in line with GDPR, Data Protection policies and national legislation
  • Treat all personal, sensitive or private information with strict confidentiality

Budget and Income

  • Ensure timely Housing Benefit claims and collection of service charges
