The Southend School Nursing team is expanding! We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic school nurse who is SCPHN qualified or who is due to qualify soon. We want you to become part of our innovative,developing and dynamic team within the Children, Young People & Families Public Health (CYP&FPH) Service.

As a SCPHN School Nurse working for Southend City Council you will have access to SAPHNA corporate membership, you will be able to continue paying into your NHS pension, claim professional fees back and benefit from the local authority pay awardeach year.

Main duties of the job

You will work within a skill mix team, working closely with partners, such as our Health Visitors, Schools, GPs and Social Care, providing seamless care to the children, young people and families of Southend. You'll also have an important role in recognising and protecting vulnerable children as well as using innovative ways to communicate with the Southend population such as Chat Health and the use of social media.

The successful candidate will work within an allocated caseload of schools ensuring the delivery of safe, effective and high quality services to school aged children and families, using research based evidence to inform practice with agreed professional standards. The post will require the school nurse to travel between schools within Southend.

To work as part of a team leading the Healthy Child Programme. The role of the SCPHNSchool Nurse is to raise awareness of and identify unmet health needs, to initiate, develop, implement and evaluate plans of care. The SCPHN School Nursewill work within a defined area, assessing need, delegating and supervising work within the team. SCPHN School Nurses promote community engagement, early intervention, health promotion, advocacy, empowerment, social inclusion and reduction of health inequalities.

The SCPHN School Nurse works in partnership with children, young people, families, schools, communities, primary care,statutory and voluntary services and other partner agencies.

SCPHN School Nurses use and establish networks within the community toinform, influence and implement policies which affect health outcomes.

Person Specification Additional information and behaviours
  • Current Full UK Driving Licence and car
  • Ability to travel across the city to various locations such as schools, homes, family centres and community venues
  • Ability to carry equipment e.g. scales
  • Manual dexterity required e.g. to be able to manoeuvre from floor to standing / climbing stairs etc
