Exciting Opportunity for a Scrub Nurse

Do you enjoy working in a fast-paced theatre department? We have a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Scrub Nurse to work at Southend University Hospital for short- and long-term placements, as well as ad-hoc shifts in a variety of NHS Hospitals and Private Organisations.

As a Scrub Nurse, you will work alongside Surgeons, Anaesthetists, Theatre Nurses, Operating Department Practitioners (ODPs), Theatre Support Workers, and Porters to provide skilled care and support throughout a patient's perioperative care.

You will be joining a friendly team of medical and nursing staff who are passionate about their work and dedicated to providing excellent care for patients and visitors.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

As a Scrub Nurse, your responsibilities will include:

  • Monitoring and maintaining a safe and sterile environment for the patient throughout the surgical procedure.
  • Safely identifying, preparing, checking, and assembling equipment required for the relevant operating list.
  • Preparing and organising the clinical area for elective, emergency, and trauma procedures.
  • Coordinating and maintaining adequate stock levels of drugs, stores, and implants, liaising with the Theatre Manager and Procurement.
  • Actively supporting patients and their families, ensuring effective communication of clinical information.
  • Demonstrating and developing clinical assessment skills, prioritising care for patients undergoing surgical/anaesthetic procedures.
  • Contributing to the ongoing development of patient care within the operating theatres by sharing knowledge and expertise.

Qualifications & Requirements

To apply for this role, you must have:

  • Current NMC/HCPC registration.
  • At least 1 year of post-graduate experience.
  • Minimum 6 months of recent UK experience within the last 3 years.
