MSE are looking for an experienced Band 6 Paediatric Nurse to work in the Paediatric Assessment Unit at Southend, who is committed to the delivery of compassionate high‑quality care.

The Paediatric Assessment Unit (PAU) at the Southend site is an 8–bedded area that caters for children aged 0–16. Children are referred to the PAU for clinical assessment and/or treatment of medical conditions from varied sources.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and coordinate a dedicated team of nursing and support staff in the assessment, planning, delivery and evaluation of paediatric care for the children and young people who attend the PAU from initial attendance through to discharge or admission to the inpatient ward.
  • Collaborate with the Unit Manager, fellow Band6 nurses and the multi‑disciplinary team within the Paediatric Department, the Paediatric Outpatient Department, Neptune Children's Ward and the Emergency Department.
  • Ensure the cleanliness of the working environment, adhere to infection control policies, procedures and guidelines, and practice appropriate hand hygiene at all times.
  • Adhere to the NMC code of professional conduct and hospital policies and participate in all relevant aspects of the governance process.
  • Maintain an up‑to‑date portfolio of evidence and continually develop nursing knowledge and skills in line with the Trust’s career pathway.
  • Work the designated shift patterns, including weekends, nights and bank holidays.
Essential Competencies
  • Experience as a Band6 Paediatric Nurse within a fast‑paced assessment unit.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor a team of nursing and support staff.
  • Strong knowledge of paediatric assessment, clinical governance and multi‑disciplinary collaboration.
  • Commitment to continuous professional development and evidence‑based practice.
