Title:
Director of Communications & Operations
Reports to:
Pastor and Staff Parish Relations (Personnel) Committee
Weekly time commitment: 20hours
Start Date:
January 2027
Office Presence
- Maintaining a consistent weekly office hours (with flexibility for personal and family needs), ideally 9am-2pm Monday thru Thursday (or 9am-12pm Mon-Thurs with additional flex hours)
- Providing a kind and welcoming office presence during stated office hours, particularly including hours that the preschool is in operation (9am-12pm).
- Answering phone calls, voicemails, and emails in a prompt and timely manner, and directing special inquiries (weddings, funerals, facilities usage, etc.) appropriately.
- Participating in weekly staff meetings
- Publishing a weekly worship bulletin, with content provided by ministry staff and lay members.
- Coordinating with staff and lay leadership to post/advertise relevant content on church media channels
- Receiving and distributing information from the pastor, staff, and church leaders for our weekly e-newsletter (via Mail Chimp).
- Updating content on programs, events, etc. on the church website
- Communicating and coordinating with different approved groups that use our facility.
- Managing the church-wide calendar to ensure current content and to prevent overlapping events with SPUMC and various community groups.
- Maintaining an effective filing/organizational system for church documents.
- Assisting the pastor in preparing for annual “Charge Conference” business meeting (usually October).
- Maintaining and updating church databases and records, including updating membership records and new guest information, working with the pastor, staff, and SPUMC members as needed.
- Managing shared staff files (via Google Drive and Planning Center).
- Checking and distributing mail during stated office hours.
- Coordinating facility maintenance appointments, as needed, in consultation with the Trustees.
- Ordering office/church equipment and supplies, via the most cost-effective methods, in consultation with the Trustees as needed.
- Coordinating key distribution/control with the Trustees.

- A desire to be a part of a delightful, energetic, collaborative team of leaders in a growing church community
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Strong administrative and organizational skills, with a keen attention to detail, and an ability to prioritize work flow around the essential weekly communication needs of the church.
- Word processing skills, and ability to use Google Suite (Google Calendar/Google Drive)
- Preference for proficiency in, or ability to learn, Canva (basic graphic design), Mail Chimp (e-newsletter), Planning Center Online (church membership database and worship planning) and GoDaddy Airo (basic web content updates)
