The Accounting Manager is a key member of the Accounting Team and will oversee aspects of Sylvan’s enterprise‑wide accounting operations, financial reporting and compliance. The ideal candidate will bring deep technical accounting expertise in areas including percentage‑of‑completion (POC) accounting, purchase accounting, financial consolidation and integration, tax, internal control, and audit, driving compliance under U.S. GAAP.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities- Support the preparation of U.S. GAAP financial statements and Canadian/other filing requirements
- Help drive the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process and recommend changes to drive improved accuracy and efficiency while reducing time to close the books
- Support and implement standard financial controls, policies and procedures across the organization
- Conduct research, draw relevant conclusions based on technical guidance, and implement process to bridge reporting gaps
- Assist in evaluating current Vista ERP modules and migration with Oracle EPM consolidation reporting
- Support the preparation of monthly and quarterly financial files for external Board of Directors, Bank, and audit compliance
- Quarterly board of director presentations
- Support annual / (quarterly) consolidated budget (forecast) coordination and preparation to all profit centers
- Assist with financial information requests
- Support the annual financial audit with divisional controllers and accounting team
- Support company tax filings and analysis with third parties and auditors
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and MSA or MBA
- CPA
- Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in technical accounting including a minimum of 2 years with a major accounting firm
- Strong percentage of completion (POC) accounting experience
- Prior M&A / purchase accounting experience / ASC 805 business combinations (opening balance sheets)
- Public company / IPO experience a plus
- Construction industry experience in a union environment preferred
- Proven leadership skills
- Competency in Microsoft applications, Excel & Word
- Ability to multi‑task in a fast‑paced business to recognize and prioritize duties within deadlines
