Brief Description
Responsible for managing the development and execution of graphic design strategies in production of media to support business units and goals of the organization. Responsible for managing the preparation of project schedules, production specifications, project estimates, and status updates. Ensure quality and the delivery of materials in a timely manner. Manages performance and development of Creative staff and department operations. Overall responsibility for the operations of the Office Services Department.
MajorFunctions
- Monitor departmental workload scheduling and outsourcing activities; implement and monitor accurate job billing/tracking/pricing metrics to provide prompt, high quality, cost effective graphic design, print and mail services to the organization.
- Design and produce commercial quality graphic design work for both print and digital mediums.
- Act as creative director, providing graphic input and advice both to Creative staff and throughout SME.
- Manage department budgets; develop and execute business plans and strategies.
- Establish, monitor, and direct departmental goals, productivity metrics and quality standards; measure effectiveness through customer satisfaction programs and strategies.
- Train and coach staff in departmental graphic conceptualization, design, and production activities and applications and processes.
- Establish/evaluate required departmental SOP’s; monitor SME, SME-EF and Tooling U‑SME logo and branding standards.
- Evaluate and conduct staff performance reviews; conduct effective goal setting and coaching sessions.
- Evaluate effectiveness of external graphics, design, print and mail services and make recommendations for changes.
- Collaborate with marketing manager in identifying and seeking solutions to production issues arising.
- Support the advancement of effective processes and practices across the department. Partner with project managers and business leaders to deliver sustainable and repeatable improvements in production and outcomes.

Minimum Education, Skills, and Experience Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, art direction, and production and ten to fifteen years work experience in related field.
- Minimum five years people management experience in graphic design, art direction, production and desktop publishing environment including financial, staff and operation management experience.
- Effective written and oral communication skills.
- Advanced knowledge of graphic design, pre-production and commercial printing and 4‑color work required as well as electronic media.
- Expert proficiency in InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, HTML, Flash and Dreamweaver. PC experience a plus. Through understanding of MAC operating systems, hardware,
- Advanced knowledge of printing processes and experience working with print/media vendors.
- Excellent human relations and customer service skills

The salary range for this position is $94,000 - $114,000 per year, based on experience and qualifications. Offers typically fall within this range based on individual qualifications and budget availability. In addition to base salary, SME offers a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, and vision insurance, 403(b) with company matching, generous paid time off and holidays, professional development and training opportunities, and additional wellness and work-life balance benefits.
Certain positions may also be eligible for bonus/incentive compensation, subject to role and company policies.
