Police Cadet
City of Southfield

Join the City of Southfield Police Department as a Police Cadet
.

Classified as:
Police Cadet – Southfield Police Department

Base Pay: $18.00 per hour

Hours: 7:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m., 40 hours per week

Responsibilities
  • Support administrative functions of the department.
  • Perform tasks that do not require full police powers, such as parking enforcement and jail security.
  • Participate in hands‑on training, sponsorship to the Police Academy, ride‑along experience, and use of all departmental equipment.
Qualifications
  • U.S. citizen, at least 18 years of age.
  • High school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.).
  • Must meet MCOLES Employment Standards.
  • Valid Michigan driver’s license and good driving record; ability to operate motor vehicles and department equipment.
  • No felony convictions and no record of serious misdemeanor convictions.
  • Preferably pursuing an associate degree in law enforcement or a related field.
Selection Process
  • Complete the City of Southfield application.
  • Review of qualifications, driving record and criminal history check.
  • Written examination and oral board interview.
  • Level 4 background investigation, psychological evaluation, and physical exam.
Additional Information

Cadets are considered “At‑Will” and may be retained at the sole discretion of the City. Placement on the eligibility list is valid for one year. The program may serve as a pipeline for entry‑level probationary Police Officer positions, but participation does not guarantee employment.
