Payroll Specialist – Sun Communities & Sun Outdoors
Join our team as a Payroll Specialist. The role acts as a subject matter expert for payroll and is responsible for all levels of payroll preparation, submission, distribution, and reporting. Responsibilities include preparing regular and special payroll reports, ensuring the integrity and confidentiality of payroll‑related information, advising managers, and answering routine team member questions.
Responsibilities- Process and audit payroll for approximately 4,000 team members on a bi‑weekly basis. (Essential)
- Coordinate the use of the time and attendance module, ensuring timely submission by team members and managers; assist managers/supervisors with timekeeping issues. (Essential)
- Ensure the payroll process adheres to strict auditing procedures, following SOX requirements. (Essential)
- Analyze current payroll, HRIS, and records processes and identify activities to improve efficiency and effectiveness; submit recommendations to management.
- Coordinate payment of bonuses, commissions, and other special payroll items.
- Act as liaison with payroll vendor to address and resolve issues and discrepancies.
- Coordinate processing of 401(k) contributions, employer match, and loan activity.
- Coordinate payment of miscellaneous team member deductions including 401(k) contributions, Friend of the Court, garnishments, etc.
- Update data files after each payroll processing; generate and coordinate filing of required payroll reports.
- Prepare and forward all necessary reports to the Main Office and communities as established and within the required timeframe.
- Respond to data requests as needed, including verifications of employment.
- In partnership with Manager, Payroll & HRIS, work with local and state government agencies as needed to set up and investigate tax‑related filings.
- Respond to management reporting and research requests; create special reports as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources or related field (Required)
- 1 year of prior experience with SAP Success Factors Employee Central Payroll or SAP Payroll (Required)
- 1 year of prior experience with SAP Success Factors Employee Central (Preferred)
- 1 year of prior experience with Workforce Software Time & Attendance Management (Preferred)
- 2 years of experience within a payroll/HR department (Required)
- 1 year of payroll experience with a multi‑departmental, multi‑state employer with at least 500 team members (Required)
- Knowledge of state payroll tax laws
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to interact in a positive and approachable manner with all levels of team members
- Strong attention to detail, organizational, and multitasking skills
- In‑depth knowledge and understanding of Human Resources Information Systems and their application
- Strong computer proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
