Job Summary
The TAB (Testing, Adjusting, and Balancing) Technician is responsible for ensuring HVAC systems operate efficiently and in accordance with design specifications. This role involves performing performance tests on air and hydronic systems, interpreting mechanical drawings and technical documents, and preparing detailed documentation of all testing activities. The TAB Technician plays a key role in project success by identifying system issues, adjusting equipment for optimal performance, and maintaining compliance with NEBB and/or AABC standards.
This position requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to continuous learning and quality work.
- Proactively participate in the company’s NEBB and/or AABC TAB Technician Training Program to ensure all applicable NEBB, AABC, and company standards and practices are maintained. This training program is designed to support team member success and improve customer satisfaction through consistent project execution.
- Inspect systems to verify compliance with plans and specifications and to identify potential or existing malfunctions in system components.
- Perform system adjustments to meet required performance settings through proper testing procedures.
- Test the performance of air and hydronic systems.
- Read and interpret project mechanical drawings, specifications, and equipment performance data to determine proper balancing techniques and project strategies.
- Prepare for each project by reviewing the system design and assembling the necessary test forms for documentation.
- Maintain thorough documentation of daily activities using project-specific reporting procedures. All testing, adjusting, and balancing activities, along with any issues discovered, must be clearly documented and supported with appropriate records, as required.
- Strong mathematical skills for completing both basic and advanced equations related to air and hydronic balancing.
- A commitment to continuous learning and the ability to perform tasks independently without full-time supervision.
- Ability to review and understand mechanical, plumbing, and control schematics, as well as other technical documents.
- Ability to read and comprehend the Statement of Work (SOW) for each project.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
