Job Description

The Specialty & Surplus Digital Data Services team leverages agile software development principles to achieve success in its support of the business. We are a dynamic organization always on the lookout for intelligent, capable employees who are passionate about their career. We seek a Lead Data Engineer for our DTS application to join our team and help us continue to provide a high level of support to our business partners, while planning for our exciting future in the cloud.

The Digital Data Services Lead Data Engineer for DTS will work with a group of highly motivated and experienced technologists who have spent the past several years working hard to implement innovative tools to the C&F Surplus & Specialty Organization for quick and scalable business solutions.

Responsibilities

What you will do:

  • Support, enhance, and develop new initiatives on our Deductible Tracking System (DTS) application, including:
  • Learn, maintain, improve upon, and add to our existing SQL code base for the application, including new initiatives currently on our road map for various business units
  • Work closely with our analytics and reporting team to create and maintain data solutions concerning DTS, including reports, the application front end, and downstream data feeds
  • Facilitate data preparation for use cases involving internal reporting, data lake house integrations, and predictive analytics
  • Leverage agile software development methods to make iterative enhancements to the application and downstream processes
  • Work with databases, data lake houses, and data pipelines
  • Data ingestion using products like Fivetran, AWS Glue and other cloud-based tools
  • Work with the full suite of AWS Services (S3, Lambda, Glue, Athena, SNS, EC2, etc)
  • Work with databases such as Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, Postgre

    SQL, Dynamo

    DB, etc
  • Work with version control software such as Git and Bitbucket
  • Work with the various business units impacted by DTS to analyze needs, recommend solutions, and work with the team to prioritize, plan, and execute on deliverables
  • Communicate with other Digital teams and Business Units to clearly define project goals, discuss timelines, and provide input on solutions
Qualifications

What you will bring to C&F:

  • 8+ years working proficiently with SQL, and SQL based application development
  • 8+ years in SQL database development, troubleshooting, and support
  • Strong in writing complex queries that involve nested joins, derived tables and common table expressions, as well as stored procedures, functions, and other advanced SQL skills
  • Capable of performing technical root cause analysis and delivering corrective action
  • Familiarity with the Snowflake Data Cloud ecosystem
  • Familiarity with the AWS ecosystem, preferably services such as Lambda Functions, Lake Formation, Glue and Athena
  • Good knowledge of semi-structured data, e.g. JSON and the columnar file formats, e.g. Parquet
  • Experience working with APIs a plus
