AJM Packaging Corporation – Metropolitan Detroit Area – Salary: $175,000 - $225,000 – Bonus:
Performance Based – Position located in Southgate, Michigan.
AJM Packaging Corporation, one of America’s leading manufacturers of sustainably sourced and produced paper products, is conducting a nationwide search for a highly qualified Director of Quality/HSE. Reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer and based at our flagship plant in Southgate, Michigan, the Director will be responsible for AJM’s Quality/HSE Management Systems across seven manufacturing/warehouse locations, three distribution centers and our corporate headquarters in Bloomfield Hills.
The successful candidate will combine technical expertise with exemplary leadership, inspiring and guiding cross‑functional teams toward ISO certification, continuous improvement and uncompromised safety.
Responsibilities & Duties- Lead and manage all Quality Assurance and HSE activities, formulating manufacturing excellence programs.
- Develop and execute strategic quality and safety plans that align with company objectives.
- Work cross‑functionally using APQP tools (DFM, DFSS, DFMEA, DVP&R, SPC, Control Plan) for new product development.
- Design, implement and maintain Quality Management Systems, QC, QA, and HSE systems across supply chain and manufacturing.
- Serve as the SME for company‑wide ISO compliance and certification.
- Prepare, approve and monitor annual QMS/HSE budgets, taking corrective action on variances.
- Adopt best‑in‑class quality and safety concepts, staying current with government and industry standards.
- Ensure corporate compliance with food safety certification requirements, including on‑site audits.
- Respond to customer complaints, OSHA investigations and related activities, driving CAPA, FMEA and other root‑cause actions.
- Track departmental KPIs and share insights with stakeholders.
- Schedule and oversee third‑party GMP and Social, Safety & Environmental audits.
- Maintain uniform product specifications and QA methodologies across all plants.
- Apply Six Sigma and lean manufacturing methods to improve QA processes.
- Develop and implement QA/HSE training programs for key personnel.
- Hire, develop and supervise all QMS/HSE personnel, manage performance and KPI evaluations.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Packaging, Materials Management or related field (graduate degree preferred).
- 12–15 years of progressive QC/QA/Quality/HSE management experience in high‑volume manufacturing; at least five years in multi‑site leadership roles.
- Extensive experience developing, implementing and managing TQM‑based QMS/HSE systems.
- Hands‑on experience with Lean Six Sigma, 5S, Kaizen, VSM, FMEA, CAPA, SPC, APQP, PPAP, RCA, PDCA, DMAIC and ISO standards.
- Self‑starter with strong leadership, problem‑solving, communication and organizational skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams).
