Workers Compensation Staff Counsel
AmTrust Financial Services, Inc. is looking for a licensed Connecticut attorney to manage a case load of Connecticut Workers’ Compensation files. The role involves pre‑trial discovery, drafting pleadings, communicating with parties, and presenting defense strategies in court while upholding AmTrust’s mission, vision and values.
Responsibilities- Independently represent the Employer/Carrier before the assigned Judge of Compensation Claims and present witnesses and evidence at administrative hearings.
- Analyze complex legal and factual issues, conduct extensive legal research, and develop and present defense strategies.
- Prepare pleadings, written discovery, motions and briefs in support of defense strategies.
- Provide effective and timely communications, legal advice and other services to clients and claims professionals.
- Use independent judgment and analytical skills required for litigation.
- Assist in developing training materials for the WC claim department.
- Work with the WC claim department and Law Department on special projects related to workers’ compensation practice.
- Communicate with the Office of the Judges of Compensation Claims, witnesses, opposing counsel and clients in accordance with office procedures.
- Ensure prompt, efficient and effective disposition of assigned cases.
- Keep current with market trends; attend continuing legal education seminars.
- Perform other functionally related duties as assigned.
- Travel daily for in‑person hearings.
- Licensed Connecticut state attorney required.
- Knowledge of Workers’ Compensation statutes and applications.
- 3+ years of workers’ compensation litigation experience.
- Exceptional research, litigation and analytical skills.
The expected salary range for this role is $76,600–$135,000, based on factors such as experience, education, responsibilities and market conditions.
