Job DescriptionThe Tool Room Technician performs routine maintenance on plastic injection molds both in the press and on the bench under the direct supervision of a Lead Tech/ Sr. Mold Technician. This involves disassembling, cleaning, organizing, and reassembling complex tooling.
This role is 100% onsite at our Southington, CT facility. Monday-Friday 6:45AM-3:15PM
Essential Duties & Responsibilities- Perform routine maintenance on plastic injection molds in the press and on the bench
- Disassemble, visually inspect, clean, organize, and reassemble high cavitation tooling
- Ensure all equipment is working properly
- Maintain shop awareness and cleanliness
- Participate in activities to ensure departmental compliance to all Federal, State, Local and Company regulatory requirements (FDA, EPA, OSHA, ISO, EEOC and Company policies)
- Work on special projects as directed
- Demonstrate positive communication skills, attitude, dedication, commitment, respect, pride and trust
- Take initiative and ownership of tasks and projects under leadership
- Perform additional duties as necessary without altering the basic scope of the position
- Basic troubleshooting of mechanical assemblies
- Introduce shop paperwork and documentation using correct terminology (FA, tool work order)
- Understand torque settings
- Apply measurement techniques (micrometer, calipers, height gauges)
- Differentiate between standard and metric systems
- Conduct mold cleaning and basic stoning/polishing of components
- Learn the mechanics and terminology of mold functions
Skills & Qualifications
- Mechanical aptitude
- Knowledge and understanding of basic shop tools and hand tools
- Basic shop math
- Basic knowledge of troubleshooting mechanical assemblies
- Ability to read/understand 2D prints (part/tool) desired but not required
- Basic machining skills (grinder, lathe, mill) desired but not required
- High School Diploma required
- Previous injection molding or tooling experience desired but not required
- Must be 18 years of age
- Typically requires travel less than 5% of the time
- Communicate verbally and in written form while performing duties
- Use standard office equipment routinely
- Work may be performed in a clean room environment
- May be required to sit or stand for long periods of time
- May need to work inside/outside injection molding machines and on ladders
- Required to lift or move up to 50 lbs
- Work schedule may change per business needs
