Position: Teaching Assistant (12 Month Fixed Term)

Teaching Assistant (12 Month Fixed Term)

Join us as a Teaching Assistant at Compass Community School Willow Park, an independent specialist school providing therapeutic, child‑centred education to boys and girls aged 6‑17 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs (SEMH). The role is a 12‑month fixed term position that supports a trauma‑ and attachment‑informed approach to learning and wellbeing.

About the Role

TAs play a vital part in supporting teachers, delivering 1:1 and small‑group sessions, managing classroom resources, organising trips, facilitating therapy sessions, and contributing to decision‑making for the school’s curriculum and extracurricular programmes.

Responsibilities
  • Support teachers in the classroom.
  • Work with children 1:1 or in small groups.
  • Manage classroom resources.
  • Take children on trips and visits.
  • Participate in lunch and social activities with children.
  • Manage heightened behaviours and ensure child safety.
  • Play board games and conduct science experiments.
  • Create displays and celebrate successes.
  • Be part of therapy sessions and reflect on difficult periods.
Qualifications & Requirements
  • Experience working with children who have complex and challenging behaviours.
  • Resilient, persistent, solution‑focused and non‑judgmental.
  • Excellent communication, consistency and flexibility.
  • Willingness to adapt quickly and wear many hats.
  • Valid or willingness to obtain an Enhanced DBS check and comply with social‑media due‑diligence checks.
