Senior Master Planner

Our client, a distinguished urban development and architectural consultancy, is seeking a Senior Master Planner to join their dynamic team based in Soweto, Gauteng . This vital role focuses on shaping the future urban fabric of communities through comprehensive master planning and strategic design. You will lead the development of large-scale urban regeneration projects, new town developments, and precinct plans, ensuring they are socially inclusive, economically viable, and environmentally sustainable.

The ideal candidate will possess a profound understanding of urban dynamics, planning legislation, and the ability to integrate diverse stakeholder needs into cohesive and implementable master plans. • Lead the development of comprehensive master plans for urban, peri-urban, and new development projects.
• Conduct detailed site analyses, feasibility studies, and socio-economic impact assessments.
• Engage and consult with stakeholders, including government agencies, communities, and private developers.
• Develop strategic frameworks for land use, transportation, infrastructure, and public spaces.
• Prepare high-quality reports, presentations, and visualizations to communicate planning proposals.
• Ensure master plans comply with relevant planning policies, zoning regulations, and environmental standards in South Africa .
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, including architects, engineers, and environmental specialists.
• Mentor junior planners and contribute to the firm's knowledge base in master planning.
• Oversee the implementation and monitoring of approved master plans.

• Master's degree in Urban Planning, Urban Design, Geography, or a related field.
• Minimum of 8 years of professional experience in master planning and urban development.
• Professional registration with a relevant body (e.g., South African Planning Institute).
• Proven track record of successfully leading and delivering complex master planning projects.
• In-depth knowledge of South African planning legislation and policy frameworks.
• Proficiency in GIS, CAD, and relevant urban planning visualization software.
• Strong analytical, strategic thinking, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder engagement abilities.
• Experience working in a hybrid environment and managing diverse project teams.
• Residency in or willingness to relocate to Soweto, Gauteng .
