A leading engineering and technology organisation operating within the defence and military vehicle sector is seeking an experienced Senior Mechatronic Systems Engineer to join its multidisciplinary engineering team.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the design, integration, development, testing and commissioning of complex mechatronic, electrical, electronic and embedded systems for advanced vehicle platforms.
This is an opportunity for an engineer who enjoys working across disciplines and taking products from requirements definition and system architecture through detailed design, production, testing and final commissioning
.
- Lead and execute the full systems engineering lifecycle from URS through SRR, PDR, DFMEA, CDR, design release, production and commissioning
. - Develop high-level electrical, electronic, mechanical and software system architectures for vehicle platforms.
- Translate customer and system requirements into detailed technical specifications and engineering solutions.
- Design and integrate vehicle electrical and electronic subsystems, control units, harnesses and vehicle nodes
. - Develop electrical schematics, harness architectures and 3D routing designs.
- Perform component selection, system integration and technical design verification.
- Develop and support embedded software for vehicle control systems.
- Work with C, C++, Embedded C, Arduino C++ and NXP S32DS
environments. - Integrate vehicle communication and data systems, including J1939 CAN
. - Develop HMI/GUI solutions using technologies such as QT and Microsoft Visual Studio
. - Prepare engineering data packs, drawings, BOMs, manufacturing documentation and technical instructions.
- Conduct system integration, verification, validation, testing and commissioning
. - Develop and execute Functional Test Procedures (FTPs) and Acceptance Test Plans (ATPs).
- Support EMC/EMI, vibration and environmental testing.
- Work with applicable military and environmental standards, including MIL-STD-461F, MIL-STD-810 and IEC 60068
. - Investigate technical failures, conduct diagnostics and implement corrective engineering solutions.
- Provide technical support during production, installation and field commissioning.
- Manage Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) and Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs).
- Engage directly with local and international customers on technical requirements, project development and engineering solutions.
- Support project costing, RFQs, quotations and commercial engineering activities.
- Mentor junior engineers and technicians.
- Collaborate closely with mechanical, electrical, software, manufacturing and systems engineering teams.
- BSc/BEng degree in Mechatronic, Electronic, Electrical, Systems or a closely related engineering discipline
. - A minimum of 4 years' professional engineering experience
, preferably within defence, military vehicles, automotive, rail, industrial automation or other highly regulated engineering environments. - Proven experience with systems engineering and multidisciplinary product development
. - Experience taking products through the complete development lifecycle from requirements to production and commissioning.
- Strong electrical/electronic systems design capability.
- Experience with embedded software development
, preferably C/C++. - Experience with CAN/J1939 or similar vehicle communication systems will be advantageous.
- Experience in harness design and electrical architecture
. - Experience with CAD and 3D design;
Autodesk Inventor advantageous. - Experience with EMC/EMI and environmental testing
. - Strong technical documentation and engineering data-pack experience.
- Ability to work with cross-functional engineering and production teams.
- Valid driver's licence.
- Defence or military vehicle engineering.
- Automotive or heavy vehicle systems.
- Embedded control systems.
- Vehicle Control Units (VCUs) and Auxiliary Control Units.
- MIL-STD-461, MIL-STD-810 and IEC 60068.
- IP-rated electronic systems.
- EMC/EMI troubleshooting.
- NXP S32 Design Studio.
- QT / Visual Studio.
- ANSYS, Space Claim or other engineering simulation tools.
- Experience with DFMEA, PDR, CDR, FAI and production release
. - Experience working with international clients and technically complex programmes.
