Civil Engineer - Urban Development & Planning

Our client is seeking a proactive and skilled Civil Engineer to join their urban development and planning team in Soweto, Gauteng . This role is central to the design and implementation of infrastructure that supports sustainable urban growth, including residential, commercial, and mixed-use developments. The engineer will be involved in conceptualizing designs, preparing detailed engineering plans, coordinating with stakeholders, and overseeing construction phases.

We are looking for an individual with a strong understanding of land development principles, including grading, drainage, utility design, and road infrastructure. This hybrid position allows for a blend of office-based work and site engagement, offering a dynamic career path within the vibrant community of Soweto . • Design and plan civil infrastructure for new developments, including roads, sidewalks, parking areas, and public spaces.
• Develop comprehensive stormwater management plans, including drainage systems and erosion control measures.
• Design and coordinate water supply and sanitation services for new developments.
• Prepare detailed engineering drawings, specifications, and reports using relevant CAD and design software.
• Conduct site assessments, feasibility studies, and preliminary design investigations.
• Liaise with municipal authorities, utility companies, and other consultants to obtain approvals and ensure project integration.
• Oversee construction activities to ensure compliance with design specifications and quality standards.
• Manage project timelines and assist in budget control.
• Ensure all designs comply with relevant South African National Standards (SANS) and local authority regulations.
• Contribute to master planning and urban development strategies.

• A Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited institution.
• Professional Engineer (Pr Eng) registration with ECSA is highly desirable.
• A minimum of 5 years of experience in civil engineering, with a focus on land development and urban infrastructure projects.
• Proven experience in site grading, drainage design, utility coordination, and road design.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and ideally, hydraulic modeling software.
• Strong understanding of South African building codes, zoning regulations, and municipal requirements.
• Excellent communication, problem-solving, and project coordination skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a team and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
• A valid driver's license and willingness to conduct site visits in and around Gauteng .
