Senior Pharmaceutical Chemist

Our client is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Pharmaceutical Chemist to join their formulation and development laboratory in Soweto. This role is central to the innovation and production of high-quality pharmaceutical products, focusing on the synthesis, characterization, and formulation of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) and finished dosage forms. You will lead complex chemical research projects, mentor junior chemists, and ensure rigorous adherence to quality and safety standards within the laboratory environment.

This is a hands-on role for a dedicated scientist passionate about advancing pharmaceutical chemistry.

• Lead research and development activities for new pharmaceutical formulations and synthesis of APIs.
• Develop, optimize, and validate analytical methods for testing raw materials, intermediates, and finished products.
• Conduct stability studies and interpret results to determine product shelf-life and storage conditions.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex chemical and formulation issues encountered during development and manufacturing.
• Mentor and guide junior chemists, fostering a collaborative and innovative laboratory culture.

• Master's or Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, or a closely related field.
• Minimum of 7 years of hands-on experience in pharmaceutical chemistry, formulation development, or analytical development.
• Expertise in synthetic organic chemistry, analytical techniques (HPLC, GC, MS, NMR), and characterization of compounds.
• Strong knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and relevant regulatory guidelines.
• Excellent problem-solving abilities, meticulous record-keeping, and strong communication skills.
