About the Role

Our client is seeking a talented Research Scientist specializing in Genomics and Bioinformatics to join their innovative research center in Soweto . This role is crucial for applying cutting-edge genomic technologies and bioinformatics tools to unravel complex biological questions. You will be involved in designing experiments, analyzing large-scale sequencing data, and developing computational methods to interpret genetic variations and their functional consequences.

The ideal candidate possesses a strong analytical mindset, expertise in genomics and bioinformatics, and a passion for data-driven biological discovery. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to impactful research within a growing scientific community.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and implement genomic studies, including whole-genome sequencing, exome sequencing, and RNA-Seq experiments.
  • Analyze and interpret large-scale genomic data using bioinformatics pipelines and statistical methods.
  • Develop and apply computational tools and algorithms for variant calling, annotation, and functional analysis.
  • Collaborate with biologists and clinicians to translate genomic findings into biological insights and potential applications.
  • Maintain and manage genomic databases and computational infrastructure.
  • Contribute to scientific publications and present research findings at conferences.
Requirements
  • Ph.D. in Genomics, Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, or a related quantitative field.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in genomics research and bioinformatics analysis.
  • Strong programming skills in Python or R and experience with bioinformatics tools and libraries (e.g., Bioconductor, GATK).
  • Proficiency in analyzing next-generation sequencing (NGS) data.
  • Experience with statistical genetics and population genetics is desirable.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work effectively in a team.
