Senior Microbiologist - Environmental

About the Role

Our client is seeking a dedicated and experienced Senior Microbiologist to join their innovative Scientific Research & Development team focused on Environmental Applications in Soweto . This role is crucial for leading research into microbial processes for environmental remediation, bioremediation, and sustainable resource management. You will be responsible for designing and executing research projects, analyzing microbial communities, and developing novel solutions to pressing environmental challenges.

• Lead research initiatives focused on the isolation, characterization, and application of environmental microorganisms.
• Develop and optimize microbial consortia and processes for bioremediation of pollutants and waste materials.
• Utilize molecular techniques (e.g., DNA sequencing, qPCR) to study microbial diversity and function in environmental samples.
• Design and conduct laboratory-scale and pilot-scale experiments to assess the efficacy of microbial solutions.
• Analyze data, prepare comprehensive technical reports, and present findings to internal teams and external stakeholders.
• Collaborate with environmental engineers and chemists to integrate microbial solutions into larger environmental management strategies.
• Ensure compliance with safety protocols and regulatory guidelines for environmental research in Soweto .

• Ph.D. in Microbiology, Environmental Science, Biotechnology, or a related field.
• Minimum of 6 years of post-doctoral research experience in environmental microbiology or applied microbiology.
• Proven expertise in microbial ecology, molecular microbial techniques, and bioremediation principles.
• Experience with culturing techniques for diverse microorganisms and analytical instrumentation.
• Strong data analysis skills and experience with bioinformatics tools for microbial community analysis.
