Our client is seeking an innovative Agricultural Research Scientist to contribute to advancements in crop science and sustainable farming practices within their research division located near Soweto . This role is focused on designing and conducting field and laboratory experiments to develop new crop varieties, improve agricultural techniques, and address challenges related to climate change and food security. You will analyze data, interpret results, and collaborate with a team of scientists and agronomists to publish findings and translate research into practical applications for the agricultural industry.
Key Responsibilities- Design, execute, and manage research experiments related to crop genetics, physiology, and agronomy.
- Collect, analyze, and interpret complex scientific data using statistical software and modeling techniques.
- Develop and test new crop varieties for improved yield, disease resistance, and nutritional value.
- Investigate sustainable agricultural practices, including soil health management and water conservation.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate research findings into practical, on-farm solutions.
- Prepare scientific reports, manuscripts for publication, and presentations for conferences.
- Ph.D. in Agronomy, Plant Science, Genetics, Soil Science, or a related agricultural discipline.
- Post-doctoral research experience or 3+ years of experience in agricultural research and development.
- Strong background in experimental design, data analysis, and scientific methodology.
- Proficiency in relevant scientific software, statistical packages (e.g., R, SAS), and laboratory techniques.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a track record of scientific publications.
- Ability to work effectively in a collaborative research environment, with flexibility for hybrid work supporting fieldwork and lab analysis in the Soweto area.
