Rate / Salary: £35  an hour - (rate increases  weekend work) Turner Lovell is recruiting experienced Mechanical / Electrical Charge hands to support delivery across high-profile substation and power infrastructure project for a leading energy infrastructure contractor This is a hands-on, site-based role for someone with strong mechanical and electrical installation experience, capable of supervising works, coordinating tasking, and ensuring safe, high-quality delivery on site.

The Role As a Mechanical / Electrical Chargehand, you will work as part of the site leadership team, supporting mechanical and electrical installation activities while overseeing day-to-day task execution. You will play a key role in ensuring works are delivered safely, to programme, and in line with quality and industry standards.

Key Responsibilities Supervise and support mechanical and electrical installation activities on site Lead work parties and coordinate daily tasking under the direction of the Site Supervisor Complete task cards and associated site quality documentation Ensure compliance with site rules, RAMS, and QEHS procedures Maintain control of access to allocated work areas Proactively plan upcoming tasks, ensuring drawings, materials, and resources are available Identify and communicate potential delays or risks to the Site Supervisor Coordinate with other trades and contractors to ensure efficient and safe site operations Promote a strong safety culture and duty of care across all site activities Experience Required Apprentice trained with NVQ Level 3 / C&G (or equivalent) plus site experience, OR Industry-recognised training with minimum 2 years' experience in an ESI or similar environment (Power Generation, Utilities, Oil & Gas, or Heavy Construction) Proven experience in mechanical and electrical installation activities Experience working within live or regulated substation environments Confidence leading small teams and supervising site works Strong understanding of health, safety, quality, and environmental requirements Qualifications & Certifications Essential: CSCS or CCNSG Safety Passport SSSTS Manual Handling Working at Height Fire Safety Awareness Desirable:
Substation authorisations (e.g. BESC / Person) National Grid or DNO competencies (e.g. NSI6 / NSI8 - limited or full) SSEN/ SPEN Authorisations desired Personal Attributes Strong leadership and communication skills Proactive, safety-first mindset Organised with good attention to detail Able to build effective working relationships on site Confident problem solver with a positive attitude Flexible and comfortable working independently or as part of a team A high-impact contract role offering competitive day rates and an excellent opportunity to play a key role on a large-scale UK energy project with a leading contractor.
