Role Description

Shift Coordinator (Days – no weekends or bank holidays) based in Long Sutton. Hours of Work:
Week 1 – Monday to Thursday 6am‑2pm / 6am‑12pm;
Week 1 – Monday to Thursday 2pm‑10pm / 12pm‑6pm.

As Shift Coordinator you will lead, support the team and ensure maximum utilisation of resources and equipment to achieve efficient production of Right First‑Time products. As required you will deputise as Shift Operations Manager.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage an Operations team to meet daily/weekly production plan demand.
  • Ensure efficient utilisation of site support functions (Engineering, Logistics, Technical).
  • Maintain operational flexibility and respond to growth plans.
  • Model and reinforce safety, quality and continuous improvement values.
  • Build strong relationships with team members, peers and colleagues.
  • Manage budgets and assist with capital expenditure projects.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives and track their effectiveness.
  • Support engineering to deliver maintenance and breakdown improvement actions.
  • Ensure compliance with health & safety regulations and conduct audits.
  • Plan staffing and manage attendance / absence according to site policy.
  • Develop and deliver training, appraisals and coaching for the team.
  • Produce performance reports and deliver engaging briefings and handovers.
Health & Safety & Environment
  • Ensure all staff are aware of hazards in the workplace.
  • Ensure risk assessments and SOPs are available and in place.
  • Understand risk assessment content to monitor and ensure recommendations are followed.
  • Immediately resolve all unsafe acts and conditions to a safe conclusion.
  • Understand own and others’ health & safety responsibilities as per Princes Foods guidelines.
  • Proactively participate in safety observation tours.
  • Carry out health & safety audits / assessments in line with site schedule.
  • Encourage team members to submit near‑miss reports.
  • Ensure response to near‑misses and accident forms is acted upon within agreed timescales.
  • Initiate accident / incident investigations immediately and manage through to completion.
People Management & Development
  • Complete effective appraisals (EDR / PDR) of team members.
  • Monitor progress against targets and give constructive feedback.
  • Carry out fair and impartial investigations (e.g., safety / disciplinary).
  • Conduct disciplinary notices according to site policy.
  • Manage attendance / absence in line with site policy.
  • Recruits team members working closely with HR.
  • Set targets and standards, monitor progress and encourage constructive feedback.
  • Train and develop team (including new starters) via coaching and mentoring.
  • Develop training plan and measure performance against it.
  • Promote team working by encouraging involvement from all employees.
  • Prioritise holiday requests.
  • Use SAP to accurately manage working time.
  • Plan labour to meet production / logistic demands.
Production / Logistics
  • Use authorised SOPs to standardise tasks / activities.
  • Manage team to deliver KPIs, ensuring alignment to business objectives.
  • Minimise costs through efficient use of resources.
  • Control cost and overheads in line with budget.
  • Operate to agreed manufacturing / logistic plan.
  • Ensure team follows Good Manufacturing Practices.
Continuous Improvement
  • Lead continuous improvement teams and projects.
  • Track effectiveness of improvement projects and report on progress.
  • Support equipment and material trials and ensure documentation of settings and procedures.
  • Gather data to identify opportunities for improvement and waste reduction.
  • Carry out root‑cause analysis of production / logistic issues.
Engineering
  • Ensure breakdown improvement actions are implemented.
