- Must hold a valid Washington State ESA certificate as Counselor or Social Worker.
- Successful substitute experience preferred.
- Preferred knowledge/experience in substance abuse prevention/intervention, child abuse, ADD/ADHD, suicide prevention/intervention, violence prevention education (Second Step), parent support and education, and anger management.
- Ability to commit to and be flexible within the full long‑term substitute assignment.
- Follows all plans and other instructions provided by the counselor/social worker and/or school.
- Assumes responsibility for duties assigned to the regular counselor/social worker.
- Provides support to meet the social, emotional, and physical needs of students—including classroom, small group, and individual work.
- Fosters a positive attitude and communicates effectively with students, parents, and staff, including those from ethnically, culturally, and economically diverse backgrounds.
- Works collaboratively within school and district to support all students.
- Creates a safe and positive environment to best serve all students.
- Utilizes effective human relations and/or communication skills.
- Completes necessary paperwork in a timely manner.
- Demonstrates effective classroom management.
- Makes efforts to maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of research‑based best practices.
- Is conscientious about equipment, instructional materials, records, and reports.
- Remains on duty and available during the professional workday.
- Communicates with the regular counselor/social worker, either by telephone and/or in writing.
- May support building with master schedule, vocational/career counseling, test administration, attendance, 504s.
- If applicable, ability to provide and adhere to the above via remote learning.
- Other duties as assigned.
