Job SummaryTransport finished goods and raw materials to and from manufacturing plants or retail and distribution centers. Inspect vehicles for mechanical and safety issues and perform preventative maintenance. Plan routes and meet delivery deadlines. Perform any combination of duties and tasks to support the distribution of steel products.

Functionin the Job
Medium/Heavy work - Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Job FunctionOperate a semi‑truck with one or two trailers according to state and federal D.O.T laws. Transport material over required route to proper destination safely and on schedule. Convey materials and items from truck trailers using over‑head cranes or forklifts. Receive and transport collections and C.O.D from customers. Perform daily inspections on trucks, trailers, and cargo securement equipment. Perform routine truck maintenance including checking tire pressure, oil, coolant, and fuel levels.
Operate an Electronic Logging Device (ELD) to accurately track, manage, and share records of duty status (RODS) data. Maintain a clean truck and trailer at all times (weather permitting). May be temporarily assigned to warehouse duties, including loading and unloading trailers. All additional tasks assigned by Supervisor and/or Manager. All of the above functions are completed with a variety of hand and power tools and computer equipment while observing production and safety standards to aid PDM Steel Service in remaining fully competitive in its chosen markets.
Skills
- Understand the different phases of warehouse processing.
- Certified Forklift operator.
- Working knowledge of computerized production systems, products, and inventory.
- Understands and complies with PDM Safety and Environmental Health rules and regulations.
- Must be well versed in D.O.T and FMCSA rules and regulations.
- Must be at least 21 years of age and possess a valid state commercial driver's license.
- Meet D.O.T physical and medical requirements and pass random substance abuse screenings.
- Meet or exceed PDM's Driver Qualification Standards.
- Use considerable judgment and discretion while driving.
- Read and interpret maps, work orders, and oral instructions.
- Communicate clearly with employees and customers in a professional manner.
- Analyze and respond to emergency situations.
