Job OverviewTesla is seeking a technical leader to join the Production Engineering team in Reno, Nevada. The role involves leading an Equipment Engineering team responsible for key manufacturing metrics, driving improvements in equipment efficiency, availability, and cycle time, and managing team performance to maximize value while maintaining technical excellence.
Responsibilities- Manage and mentor a team of Engineers and Technicians focused on Battery Module production for Model 3/Y.
- Develop management systems to ensure safe, high-availability equipment operation with quality and efficiency.
- Ensure safety training, document incidents, and address workplace hazards in line with EHS standards.
- Report and improve KPIs such as equipment availability, efficiency, and cycle time.
- Guide engineers in upgrading equipment to enhance capacity, reduce costs, and improve yields.
- Lead root cause analysis for unplanned downtime and implement permanent solutions.
- Allocate resources daily, balancing priorities across engineering, maintenance, and production.
- Serve as a backup engineer to ensure coverage and address complex issues.
- Collaborate with manufacturing engineering and controls teams on new process and equipment integration.
- Availability for off-hours and weekend support as needed.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
- At least 3 years of leadership experience in automated, high-volume manufacturing environments.
- Proven track record of impactful contributions both individually and in management.
- Hands-on experience with lean manufacturing principles.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and adapt priorities dynamically.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Experience with structured problem-solving methodologies like DOE and root cause analysis.
- Preferred:
Mechanical, automation, and controls engineering experience; understanding of equipment behavior.
