Praetorian Power Protection, the leader in NETA testing and staff augmentation to the mission critical industry, is searching for a Controls Commissioning Engineer to join our Reno based team.

This role is responsible for coordinating the entire commissioning process across multiple trades, from initial design reviews and pre-functional testing to complex integrated systems validation. You will be the technical authority for troubleshooting automation, HVAC, electrical, and security controls, utilizing tools like PLCs and SCADA to guarantee 24/7 uptime for life‑safety and business‑critical facilities. Your work is essential to minimizing risk, enforcing contract compliance, and delivering a fully functional, resilient facility to the owner.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee Commissioning:
Lead and coordinate all phases of the controls commissioning (Cx) process, from design reviews and submittal analysis to functional performance testing (FPT) and integrated systems testing (IST).
  • Systems Integration:
Act as the primary point of contact for integrating complex building control systems delivered by various subcontractors, ensuring they communicate and operate as a single, cohesive system.
  • Technical Troubleshooting:
Diagnose and resolve complex issues in automation, HVAC (BMS/BAS), electrical (EPMS), and security control systems, including hands‑on analysis of PLC logic and SCADA interfaces.
  • Vendor & Trade Coordination:
Manage and direct multiple controls vendors and trades on‑site, ensuring adherence to project specifications, schedules, and quality standards.
  • Risk Mitigation:
Develop and execute commissioning test scripts designed to identify and mitigate risks to critical operations, ensuring all failure modes are tested and understood.
  • Standards Compliance:
Enforce contract compliance and adherence to project requirements and industry standards (e.g., ASHRAE, LEED, Uptime Institute).
  • Project Alignment:
Work closely with project managers, construction teams, and owner representatives to align commissioning activities with project schedules, budgets, and the Owner's Project Requirements (OPR).
  • Documentation:
Prepare comprehensive commissioning plans, reports, discrepancy logs, and final turnover documentation for the client.
Required Qualifications & Skills
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field (or equivalent field experience).
  • 5+ years of experience in controls, automation, or commissioning, with significant experience in mission‑critical environments (e.g., data centers, hospitals, industrial plants).
  • Strong technical understanding of control sequences for mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Direct, hands‑on experience with Building Automation Systems (BAS), PLCs, and SCADA platforms.
  • Proven ability to read and interpret design drawings, control schematics, and technical submittals.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Direct data center commissioning experience.
  • Experience with specific control platforms (e.g., Siemens, Rockwell, Schneider Electric, ALC).
  • Knowledge of critical power systems (UPS, generators, switch gear) and mechanical systems (chillers, CRAHs).
  • Professional certification (PE, BCA, or similar).

Praetorian Power Protection is an Equal Opportunity Employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, or veteran status.
