Job Description

At Amcor Flexibles, ensuring a proactive safety culture for all employees within our manufacturing sites is our number one priority. The Safety Specialist provides comprehensive EHS support to the plant. This includes driving implementation of Amcor EHS programs and policies to ensure regulatory compliance and meet annual KPI’s.

Responsibilities
  • Assist the site leadership team in coordination and implementation of Amcor EHS programs as directed by the leadership team and the EHS Manager.
  • Promote a proactive safety culture to reduce injuries and reduce employee exposure to potential risks.
  • Conduct awareness and authorized training for all employees.
  • Lead/facilitate the site EHS safety committee.
  • Develop and maintain Job Safety/Hazard Assessments and environmental impact assessments.
  • Assist in the development, maintenance, implementation, and annual review of EHS policies, procedures and responsibilities.
  • Partner with department managers, supervisors, and employees with implementation of creative approaches to improve safety, minimize environmental footprint/liability, and EHS initiatives.
  • Evaluate new materials and material use to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, promote a safe work environment and protect the environment.
  • Prepare and coordinate EHS training, including preparing materials for computer-based training, supervisor lead training, safety huddles to ensure compliance.
  • Conduct EHS compliance assessments, including preparation of assessment reports and manage site improvement plans.
  • Manage the hazardous waste program to ensure compliance with federal and state requirements.
  • Assist in various environmental reporting for the plant (air permitting, emissions calculations/reporting, storm water reporting, hazardous waste reporting as well as SARA Title 2 &
    3).
  • Maintain required paperwork to comply with Amcor requirements.
  • Provide (or facilitate access to) immediate aid for associates, visitors, vendors, or guests that need assistance, or medical attention.
  • Conduct new employee safety orientation/training and annual re-certification.

  • Strong work ethic and team player.
Preferred Qualifications
  • College degree in Engineering, Safety or Environmental studies.
  • 1-3 years of experience in EHS related field.
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment (especially flexible packaging or web coating) strongly desired.
  • Good safety and environmental regulatory understanding.
