Tesla is seeking a highly motivated Manufacturing Controls Engineer experienced in AGVs to join the General Assembly shop at our Semi Manufacturing Factory in Sparks, NV. The Manufacturing Controls Engineer will be experienced in the automation control field, bringing exposure to Siemens or other PLC platforms, Fanuc robots, and safety systems. This role requires hands‑on involvement on the manufacturing line and emphasizes analytical abilities, organization skills, and attention to detail.

As a Manufacturing Controls Engineer, you will be responsible for supporting lineside troubleshooting, analyzing and improving current systems, and developing and deploying new PLC code to help remove production bottlenecks.

• Collaborate with manufacturing engineering teams to commission AGVs prior to production start
• Become the subject matter expert on AGVs and train other engineers and technicians
• Drive improvements to keep AGVs availability above 99%
• Create documentation to diagnose and fix common faults for technicians
• Review and update electrical wiring diagrams and layout drawings for VFDs, servos, PLC and other control devices
• Support 24/7 Production Operations as needed

• Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, or equivalent experience
• Experience working with AGVs/AMRs
• 3+ years in high‑volume manufacturing experience as a Controls Engineer
• Proficiency in PLC programming of equipment sequences using IEC‑61131‑compatible programming languages and logic troubleshooting (e.g., Siemens, Allen‑Bradley) and hands‑on experience with Fanuc robot programming
• Proficiency in HMI/SCADA industrial systems (SIMATIC WinCC, TIA Portal or Ignition SCADA)
• Experience with motor drive setup and troubleshooting (SEW EURODrive and Siemens G120, S120 preferred)
• Experience with electrical design using EPlan (preferred) or AutoCAD Electrical and schematic troubleshooting; demonstrated experience with 3‑phase 480/208 VAC, single‑phase 208/120 VAC, and 24 VDC systems
• Knowledge of PROFINET and Ethernet communication protocols
• Familiarity with configuring and optimizing vision systems (Keyence, Cognex)
• Strong problem‑solving ability to address complex technical issues, identify root causes, and implement effective solutions
