DescriptionESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Operates and performs changeovers on lines/equipment within required timelines and meets safety, quality and efficiency goals. Follows work instructions, standards and SOPs for equipment setup and changeover. Identifies and resolves issues during setup and changeover.
- Prepares work area at start of shift and cleans up at end of shift or end of production run. Cleans or sanitizes all food contact surfaces between product changes. Ensures availability of required materials and supplies using appropriate lift trucks, hand jacks and other equipment once certifications are achieved.
- Operates equipment, including troubleshooting and adjustments per established work standards. Cleans and assembles equipment according to SOPs.
- Conducts quality checks at regular intervals; inspects ingredients and finished product to ensure processing per specifications.
- Truthfully and legibly completes required paperwork and reports (e.g., Excel, Word, PCDA, Oracle).
- Reduces downtime by performing tasks promptly, safely and efficiently.
- Performs operator scheduled maintenance checklist.
- Diagnoses and performs minor machine maintenance and coordinates with maintenance for escalations as needed.
- Submits daily reports of duties performed and production quantities produced.
- Identifies and submits suggestions to improve efficiencies, quality and safety.
- Participates in root cause analysis and continuous improvement initiatives; assists with implementing improvement ideas.
- Complies with safety, GMP, and SOPs/WIs for the work area.
- Packaging Area: Conducts quality checks; inspects filled containers and finished product for packaging specifications. Assists coworkers in setting up machines and stacks, marks, packs, and transports finished product.
- Processing Area: Examines product for identity and impurities. Weighs ingredients using scales, mixes ingredients using appropriate methods. Follows batch instructions and notifies supervisor of concerns. Records lot and item information on production tickets and updates mix tickets and log books; enters information into the computer system for tracking.
- Lifts and places raw materials into totes or tanks; properly labels bulk containers.
- Keeps QA and R&D informed to ensure correct material usage and to suggest product improvements.
Supports a culture of safe production and follows safety practices. Participates in safety activities and provides/receives feedback on safety performance. Reports incidents immediately. Uses PPE as required and participates in safety teams as part of regular responsibilities.
QualificationsEducation and/or Experience
- High school diploma or GED and six (6) months of related experience or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Prior experience operating blending/processing and/or packaging machines/equipment preferred.
- Experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably food or pharmaceuticals, preferred.
Performance Ability
Certification as a Machine Operator in one to three Packaging and/or Processing areas (any combination).
- Processing areas:
Encapsulation;
Roller Compactor;
Tablet Coating;
Tablet Press;
Wet Blending;
Dry Blending. - Packaging areas:
Cloud;
Oil-1, Oil-4 and HPC;
Monoblock Oil;
Powder and/or Mateer;
Tea;
Vitamin.
Proven ability to operate various Packaging and Processing equipment according to standards; set up, run and adjust machines; conduct timely quality checks; perform minor maintenance; complete paperwork; and sanitize/changeover equipment. Strong knowledge of machine capabilities, manufacturing process, and ability to troubleshoot. Demonstrated ability to meet quality, safety and efficiency goals. Good problem solving, time management, and prioritization skills; flexible to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
Strong teamwork, communication, attention to detail, and high quality of work. Ability to work in Packaging and Processing at both the 391 and 395 facilities in Bloomingdale.
Language Skills
Ability to communicate professionally and effectively in writing and verbally. Ability to read and understand safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and SOPs. Ability to accurately complete sanitation/production paperwork.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to perform basic arithmetic and understand measurements, rates, ratios and percentages.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply common sense and carry out instructions written, spoken, or diagrammed. Good problem solving abilities.

- Basic understanding of mechanical principles; ability to troubleshoot and adjust machines.
- Ability to operate hand-operated lifting equipment (Interthor).
- Basic computer and data entry skills.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends.
